It all started as a hobby—growing fruits and vegetables in our somewhat large backyard in Grindrod, BC. But at the end of each harvest season, we ended up with more produce than we could store for ourselves, so we had this idea of freeze-drying. Having so much, we thought nothing of giving away to friends and neighbours, until someone suggested we make it a business. So here we are!

Exploring our inner organic farmers

Meet Wes and Carol

Carol & Wes Nickel live in the North Okanagan area of BC. Wes, a log builder by trade, carpenter and musician, brings his craftsmanship personality to everything he does. Carol, an interior designer/musician who was raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, brings her creative skills to the farm. Both have a belief in regenerative organic farming and the commitment to growing nutrient-dense foods. They work with nature to bring the best quality to their products.

Our product starts in the garden. Within hours of harvesting, our fruits and vegetables are frozen to retain their nutritional value prior to freeze drying—a process that removes moisture from food without harming its cellular structure. This prepares it for rehydration in a way that retains 97% of its original nutrient value.

“I’m learning that like music, farming is an art in and of itself that nourishes your soul—you feel truly connected to the earth in ways I’m only now discovering.”

—Wes Nickel
